Blues assist to beat Saints
Chris Sutton helped Everton beat Southampton in what was a crucial game in the context of the season on Saturday afternoon.
Nathan Jones' side come into this game with an impressive Carabao Cup win over Manchester City, but Sutton sees the Blues take all three points on the occasion.
writing on hisBBC sports column, he said:
Everton also recently achieved an impressive result against City, a 1-1 draw at the Etihad Stadium on New Year's Eve, but lost heavily in their next home game against Brighton after falling apart in the second half.
I keep saying they will win Goodison without getting the required results like they did last season and sooner or later I will abandon them.
For now though, I will continue to support them, but this is the last time I will if they lose."

Verdict on Ellis Simms
Sunderland boss Tony Mowbray is open to the idea of Ellis Simms returning to the club on loan during the January transfer window.
The Blues, who were called up by Everton on New Year's Eve, ended a winning run for the striker, who had scored seven goals in 17 league appearances for the Black Cats.
Frank Lampard is actively looking for a new striker in January to bolster his attacking options and Mowbray has not ruled out a return to Wearside for Simms.
“Either they keep it or come back here. They could sign a £50m centre-forward and then they have Calvert-Lewin and a few other options to play early on. It depends on what Frank (Lampard) is really thinking," said the Sunderland manager.
"It's his decision, not ours, but what we know is that if the phone rings and they let him out again, he can come here and by then maybe we've signed a young striker, let's wait and see."
"When he arrives there is no integration into the club, he knows the players, the coach, the club. If that option is there for us, we will consider it. But we cannot stay still." and I hope that happens. We have to keep moving and try to get a striker if we can."

"This is a great game for Everton"
Bacary Sagna intervened in Everton's grudge game against Southampton this weekend.
The Blues host the Saints trying to get in and out of the bottom three. Nathan Jones's side are unbeaten in their last two FA Cup games after winning at Crystal Palace before beating Manchester City to secure their place in the Carabao Cup semi-finals. They are currently at the bottom of the table.
sagna customsMr. Ping:
Of course, this is a massive game for Everton. They are having a difficult season and when you see the teams behind them in the table, like Wolves, they know they have to start winning games. Southampton have always been a very good team, but it looks like they are going to fall this season.
For Frank Lampard and Everton, this is a game they absolutely must win because they haven't won a game in a long time. They need to get out of the negative cycle they are in and if they win this game they can slowly start to regain some confidence.

Rangers receive a warning from Tom Davies
Scottish football expert Simon Ferry has warned Rangers against signing Tom Davies.
The midfielder has fallen down the Blues pecking order and could leave Goodison Park in the not too distant future. He has recently been linked with a move to the Rangers.
But Gers boss Michael Beale has been urged to sign more attack-oriented players. He saidsport grosvenor
Tom Davies is fine for me. He's good at it and good at the simple stuff, but the Rangers have had enough of those kinds of players. He is very similar to John Lundstram and Ryan Jack.
Rangers need more attacking midfielders and I don't see Tom Davies as the right person to do it. He doesn't score enough goals or give enough assists.
Tom Davies is not a necessity for Rangers and I can imagine he has a fortune at Everton so I imagine he would come with quite a big salary.

Michael Keane is one of five names Everton could sell to raise money for transfers.

The Blues are considering a loan move for Anthony Elanga, they say, as well as an approach for Atletico Madrid defender Felipe, but finances at Goodison Park are said to be tight.
However, Frank Lampard said last week:
"We have a spending budget, but as I mentioned, we could also look at loans," the Everton boss said when asked about the transfers on Thursday afternoon.
"We have to look at what we can bring, a player who influences us now because that's what we want and need.
“But also not signing players who will become our players, who are not the right players for Everton and our team. It's a process we need to go through to make sure we don't make these mistakes.
"That doesn't make it easy because it's not a huge market right now, especially at the top end of the field, which is the hardest part to find people to come in and deliver." But we have to find the best way to do it.”
